Cameron Bownes

Senior Occupational Therapist

My qualifications

I completed my Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy at Curtin University back in 2015.

My specialisation / special interest

I have an interest working with adolescents and young people, specifically working with Mental Health, which I am learning more about each day. I find it really rewarding being able to support people to fully engage in their life in a meaningful way. Being a part of their recovery journey, guided by their own life experience and interests to find creative solutions to the challenges of life.

What inspires me

As corny and cliché as it sounds, I’m constantly inspired by the people I get to work with each day. Seeing how my amazing colleagues work with their clients, helping them to achieve their goals, develop their therapeutic relationships and help make positive changes to other’s lives.

Also seeing how my clients and their families achieve their own goals, respond to and overcome challenges in their lives, and support themselves and each other through life.

What gets me up in the morning

My coffee machine. And the opportunity to attempt to make something resembling latte art in my mug. It’s slow progress…

Why I joined Superyou

I moved home late last year after five years living and working in The UK. The NDIS has changed and grown significantly in that time. I was left to make a choice between seeking work in a mainstream mental health service, or re-engaging in the NDIS sector.

I saw that there was a gap for people who live with disability having access to mental health support within the NDIS model. Not long after returning home, I sat down with a good friend who happened to work at Superyou, who spoke volumes about the service and how it is designed to support it’s clinicians to support it’s clients and were actively seeking someone to come in and support the development of psychosocial supports within the organisation. So I took them up on the offer and have not looked back!

Amy Orlowski

Senior Speech Pathologist

Danielle Hutton

Senior Speech Pathologist

My qualifications (incl University name)

Bachelor of Speech Pathology, Flinders University in South Australia.

My specialisation / special interest

My special area of interest is assistive technology and I specialise in Augmentative and Alternative Communication, also known as AAC. I am dedicated to working with individual clients, their families, and their supports, to get the right equipment for them, to ensure that they are able to communicate and participate to the best of their ability, and in all the parts of their life that matter most to them. I also specialise in working with early intervention, mealtimes and dysphagia, stuttering and complex communication needs across the life span.

What inspires me

I am inspired daily, by the motivation and commitment that I witness in this role from families, parents and client’s themselves when it comes to their dedication and motivation for progress. Seeing the impact that comes from the work we do, and the change that it can have on the daily life of someone we work with, inspires me to keep growing and learning so that I can do more in this role for more people.

What gets me up in the morning

Without a doubt, it’s a coffee in the sunshine and a morning yoga class or a quick dip in the ocean!

Why I joined Superyou

I joined Superyou because Superyou allows for its team of therapists to think outside of the box of traditional therapy and think of ways that we can have lasting and meaningful impacts in the work that we do for the people that we are here to help. My specialisation/special interest

Supporting individuals with complex communication needs. I have a particular interest in speech sound disorders and assistive technology; however, I am also passionate about mental health, executive functions, literacy, and language development.

My superpower, if I could have anything

To be able to teleport! A sneaky way to travel around the world.

What gets me up in the morning

My Aussie Shepherd puppy (Riley) does a pretty good job of this. Also, the fresh pot of coffee my partner has usually put on for me. Knowing I have full day of doing what I love is what gets me out the door though.

Why I joined Superyou

I joined Superyou for three main reasons. Firstly, to be part of an organisation with a service delivery model that aligns with my personal values. Superyou is committed to thinking outside the box and providing supports to individuals wherever, whenever, and however it is needed. Secondly, I joined Superyou for the opportunities available to me professionally. I know that at Superyou, I will be supported to continue to develop and hone my clinical and leaderships skills so I can continue to be the best clinician for my clients and my colleagues. Lastly, the flexible working at Superyou allows me to maintain a positive work-life balance, which means my cup is always full and I am able to give 100% to all of my clients.

Why I joined Superyou

As cliché as it sounds, helping people achieve what they want to achieve. Superyou gives me the chance to spend time getting to know clients and understanding their goals and how they want to go about achieving it, whether it’s learning to run or standing up for the first time. The best feeling is a client coming to a session and telling me about how they got to use a skill they’ve worked on in physio in their day to day life or how it’s made their life easier.
