What drove you to choose a career in your discipline?
I was halfway through studying a Bachelor of Primary Education when my friend came back from an overseas speech pathology placement. After hearing her experiences and learning what speech therapists do, I was sold, and now I love coming to work everyday!
Do you have any special interest areas in therapy?
In general, I love creative problem solving, it feels like finishing a huge puzzle to me! In particular I love tailoring language therapy to adults who have had a stroke or acquired brain injury to make it interesting and FUN-ctional.
I also love getting my hands dirty in the garden and bringing therapeutic horticulture services to people who may or may not know the wonderful benefits of gardening!
What’s your favourite part of your job?
I promise I am not trying to be cliche when I say this but I love working alongside people! I could never be in a role where I didn’t talk to anyone all day. I love seeing participants in their homes, the community, and the clinic, and looking for snacks in the office with my colleagues.
