From Evidence to Action: Building Trauma-Informed, Neuroaffirming Classrooms
Beyond direct therapy, we deliver training and professional learning to education providers (like schools, universities and even daycares) that builds staff confidence in inclusive, trauma-informed, and neuroaffirming practices—helping educators translate evidence into everyday classroom action.
We also guide schools on how to access and coordinate funding, including through education and NDIS pathways, to make supports sustainable and accessible.
Examples of our training
The below list includes trainings we currently offer for schools. It’s common for us to tailor trainings to meet the specific needs of a school, and we can also develop new training offerings related to supporting your specific communication and access needs. Just let us know what you’re after and we’ll work with you to create the perfect fit!
AAC in the Classroom
- Helps build a shared understanding of key concepts and strategies to support AAC implementation within a school context.
- This training covers types of AAC, common AAC myths and evidence-based implementation strategies. The AAC systems used within examples and practice activities can be tailored to align with those in use in your school.
Key Word Sign Basic Training (Accredited Presenter)
- In this introductory key word sign course, attendees learn about the principles of key word sign and gesture, who it can be used with and how it can be used alongside other ways of communicating. They will understand how key word sign is different to Auslan, the language of the Deaf Community in Australia.
- In the practical component of the course attendees learn up to 80 new signs along with common natural gestures. There is the opportunity to practice using speech and signs together in interactive activities, building your skills in a safe and fun group environment. Attendees will leave the workshop with a detailed plan of the next steps in their key word sign journey, as well as a host of helpful resources to support further learning.
Talking Mats Foundation Training (Accredited Presenter)

Foundation training enables attendees to gain the necessary skills and strategies to use the Talking Mats principles which help to facilitate communication using this tool.
- This training is run across two half day sessions, with participants required to practice using talking mats and gather a video example between the sessions.
AAC within Workplace Learning
- Communication can be a key component of success in the workplace and this is the same for students on workplace learning whose speech doesn’t meet all their needs.
- We explore the benefits of using communication aids within work experience and the different communication requirements students may experience within workplaces. This training helps attendees plan for student success, including practical tips and resources.
AAC App, Software or Device-Specific Training
- Build skills and confidence with specific AAC system(s) used by students within your school. Our team are highly experienced with a wide range of AAC systems. Training includes information and hands-on opportunities to get to know available features, navigate to find vocabulary and edit to add new words and other content.
- Examples include Grid 3, TD Snap, TouchChat HD with Wordpower, Proloquo2Go, Pictello. Build confidence with AAC systems used in your school through hands-on learning, navigation, and customisation.
Boardmaker 7
- Boardmaker 7 software is an inclusive tool to create, edit and share print and interactive resources that make learning more accessible for students.
- This training supports school teams to make the most of their school’s Boardmaker 7 subscription and incorporates hands on learning opportunities to begin creating resources relevant to their class.
Introduction to Eye Gaze or Switch Access
- This presentation focuses on either eye gaze or switch technology in classrooms, including physical setup, assistive hardware, and appropriate software. It introduces frameworks for monitoring students’ progress from beginners to proficient users and explains how to use this information for effective goal setting.
- Attendees will learn practical methods for using a student’s eye gaze device or switch technology to participate in classroom activities and meet Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
Integrating Access Methods in the Classroom
- School teams will learn practical ways to use different access methods, such as touchscreens, switches, and eye gaze, to help students take part in the curriculum. The session looks at how working together as a team and using student-focused assessments, like the SETT framework, can help you choose and adjust the best access methods for each student.
- We’ll cover how to build skills and try out classroom activities that make it easier for students to join in learning, communicate, take part in the arts, and handle everyday tasks. You’ll leave with useful ideas to support student involvement in the classroom and beyond.
