With a planned transition to Thriving Kids, our team are noticing that the NDIS are advising more and more participants that they are no longer eligible for funding.
This can happen during plan reviews or reassessments, often when a child’s early intervention phase concludes (usually between ages 6-9), or if an adult’s support needs have changed.
It can also happen ad-hoc, without clear reasons as to why. Notifications are usually given with 28 days’ notice before funding ends, and you should get support to transition to mainstream services.
When this happens, it is very important to act quickly so that you are not unexpectedly charged for services.
How You Should Be Notified
You should receive either:
-
A phone call from the NDIS or an NDIA partner (LAC/ECEI), or
-
A formal letter or email confirming the decision and the date your funding will end.
If you have not received any contact but believe your funding has stopped or changed, you should contact the NDIS immediately (1800 800 110) to confirm your status.
When You Might Stop Receiving NDIS Funding
-
Eligibility Changes: The main reason is no longer meeting NDIS criteria, which is common for children who have do not have a formal diagnosis, or adults whose conditions no longer meet the definition of a disability.
- Choice to Leave: You can choose to leave if you’ve met goals, developed independence, or no longer want NDIS support, by contacting the NDIS.
-
Moving Overseas: If you move out of Australia.
What You Need to Do Straight Away
To avoid out-of-pocket costs, please take the following steps as soon as you find out (or suspect) that your NDIS funding has ended:
-
Notify Superyou Therapy, your other providers, plan manager and support coordinator immediately.
We need to know as soon as your plan ends or if you receive communication from the NDIS about eligibility changes. If services are delivered outside the funded dates, you will be required to pay privately for any outstanding or future appointments. -
Confirm your funding end date directly with the NDIS, especially if:
-
You haven’t received a formal letter or email
-
You’ve only heard verbally
-
Something doesn’t look right in the Myplace portal
-
-
Ask for help if you need supporting documentation.
If you wish to request a review or need reports or letters to support eligibility discussions, please let us know. We are very happy to help.
What Superyou Therapy Will Do
Once we are informed (by you or the NDIS) that your funding has stopped:
-
We will immediately place all upcoming appointments as “pending”.
This prevents unintentional charges while you work out next steps. -
We will contact you if we receive notification first (e.g., from your plan manager or support coordinator).
Our goal is to ensure you’re not surprised by any funding changes. -
We will work with you to explore future options, including:
-
Continuing privately (if you choose)
-
Short-term or reduced-cost options
-
Transition planning
-
Reports or letters if you are challenging the NDIS decision
-
Connecting you with appropriate community or mainstream supports
-
Our priority is to ensure continuity of support wherever possible and to help you understand your choices. Please contact us for further support on 08 6263 8623 or hello@superyou.org.au.
