What drove you to choose a career in your discipline?
I have always been drawn to working with people in a helping profession. I have an older brother who lives with disability and I had experience seeing the work that health professionals do and the importance of the role they played in his life. I felt as though Occupational Therapy suited me best as it allows me to work holistically and with the goals that re most important to the person.
Do you have any special interest areas in therapy?
My career has led me to develop specialised knowledge and skills in the area of assistive technology for AAC, computer access, environmental control and gaming. My role is to enable people to control their technology using alternative methods such as switch access, eye gaze, integrated wheelchair controls and mounting.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
I love to problem solve and come up with creative solutions that support people to do the things that are most important to them, whether that is play a video game, call a friend, play their favorite movie on TV or use their AAC device to crack a joke.
Why did you join Superyou?
I joined Superyou because its an organisation that is committed to supporting both their clients and their staff to achieve positive outcomes for all. Superyou is proactive in supporting its therapists to grow and develop their skills. It is also an organisation that embraces the ideas of its staff and is willing to give change a go.
What does Reimagining Therapy look like to you?
Reimagining therapy is looking outside the traditional delivery models of therapy and meeting the person’s needs at the life stage they are at and what is most important to them now.
