What drove you to choose a career in your discipline?
I’ve always enjoyed working with others and having the opportunity to help other people – so working in healthcare was always something I wanted to do. However, it took me a while to figure out which healthcare sector I wanted to go into – so first I did Nursing (and discovered it wasn’t something I loved). Then I completed a Bachelor in Anatomy and Human Bio and did a broadening unit in Italian – which was when I discovered my passion for languages. Then choosing Speech Pathology was kind of an easy decision – as it combined science, languages, and the opportunity to support others 🙂
Do you have any special interest areas in therapy?
This is a hard question as there are so many areas in speech that I would like to learn more about! At the moment, I’m really enjoying learning more about early intervention and social skills. Every single client that I see has different strengths and areas requiring support, so it’s exciting to learn more so that I can provide the best support possible.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of the job is being able to work with a variety of clients and having such a supportive team that are always there to make my day happier and easier!
Why did you join Superyou?
I had my last student placement at Superyou which helped me learn more about the disability sector (and fall in love with it). Also, this gave me the opportunity to work with the team and learn more about Superyou’s team culture/philosophy – which I thought was amazing and so so supportive! Having a supportive and positive work environment is very important to me, so even before I graduated I had no doubt where I wanted to work!
What does Reimagining Therapy look like to you?
Making sure every single session and therapy plan is tailored to my clients’ interests and likes, to support their engagement and make therapy fun!
Wild card question – what else should we know about you!
I was born and raised in Brazil – which helps me understand a bit more about cultural diversity and how to better support multicultural clients in therapy.
