How long have you worked in the disability sector?
What drove you to choose a career in your discipline?
I was inspired to change careers to speech pathology after tutoring a client with a learning disability. During this time, I witnessed the significant impact that tailored support can have, sparking a passion for helping others.
A conversation with my aunt, who has over 40 years of experience working with children with disabilities, further encouraged this career shift. Her valuable insights and recommendation reinforced the idea that speech pathology is a truly rewarding profession that can make a real difference in people’s lives.
Do you have any special interest areas in therapy?
In the future, I hope to specialise in supporting clients with mealtime difficulties, an area of particular interest and importance.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part about the job is the chance to interact with clients and their families. It’s incredibly rewarding to see clients make progress, whether it’s improving their communication or gaining confidence in everyday tasks out in the community or at home. Building strong relationships with families and seeing them feel empowered to support their loved ones is one of the highlights.
Why did you join Superyou?
I joined Superyou because the organisation’s objectives really resonated. The emphasis on “thinking big” and being encouraged to make mistakes and learn from them aligned with my own values. It’s refreshing to be in an environment where growth is supported, and the focus is on impressing clients through genuine progress and care.
What does Reimagining Therapy look like to you?
“Reimagining therapy” to me means finding creative, personalised ways to help clients grow. It’s about adapting approaches to fit individual needs, making therapy engaging, and empowering clients to reach their goals in a natural, meaningful way.
