What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a service that assists and improves a person’s ability to move and function in their everyday life through therapeutic supports such as tailored exercise programs and other services like hydrotherapy and even hippotherapy.

Our highly trained clinicians support people needing physiotherapy by providing them with personalised support, strengthening programs, movement strategies, or equipment to allow them to continue doing the activities they love and improve their health, wellbeing and daily living.

What does a physiotherapist do?

Our physiotherapists work with people of all ages and abilities. We provide tailored support for children through early intervention and help adults and older clients maintain mobility, manage pain, and stay active. Our focus is on improving independence, participation, and quality of life for people living with disability.

Physiotherapy plays an important role in supporting people with disability to move comfortably, safely, and confidently. We help improve or maintain mobility, assist with equipment and assistive technology, and develop strategies that make everyday activities easier. Our focus is always on supporting independence, participation, and quality of life.

Physiotherapy Services

Superyou has physiotherapists ready to support you today with community-based health professionals who can travel to you and provide NDIS physiotherapy services.

Our physiotherapists assist with the following treatment, goals and services:

Mobility

Mobility support focuses on helping you move more easily, safely, and confidently in your everyday life. This can include walking, getting out of a chair, climbing stairs, or moving around your home and community. A physiotherapist looks at how your body moves, identifies what might be making things harder (like weakness, stiffness, or pain), and builds a plan to improve your movement so you can stay independent.

Gait Analysis and Retraining

“Gait” simply means the way you walk. A physiotherapist watches how your legs, feet, hips, and body move when you walk to understand what might be causing pain, imbalance, or difficulty. After identifying the cause, we guide you through exercises and techniques to retrain your walking pattern. This helps improve efficiency, reduce pain, increase safety, and prevent falls.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is exercise and rehabilitation performed in a warm, supportive pool. The water takes pressure off your joints, making movement easier and more comfortable, while still giving your body resistance to build strength. physiotherapists use hydrotherapy to help with pain, mobility, balance, stiffness, and rehabilitation after injury or surgery.

Pain Management

Pain management physiotherapy helps you understand the cause of your pain and teaches safe, effective ways to reduce it. This may include gentle hands‑on treatment, stretching, strengthening, posture support, movement retraining, and education about how your body works. The goal is not only to relieve pain but to give you tools to manage it confidently in daily life.

Assistive Technology and Equipment

physiotherapists assess how you move and then recommend equipment that can help you do everyday activities more safely and comfortably. This might include mobility aids like walkers, wheelchairs, or crutches, or home equipment like rails, seating supports, or braces. We ensure the equipment fits properly, meets your needs, and supports your goals — whether that’s getting around more easily, reducing pain, or staying independent.

Falls Prevention and Balance

If you feel unsteady or have had a fall, physiotherapists can help improve your balance, strength, and confidence. We assess why you might be losing your balance — whether it’s muscle weakness, reduced coordination, or a pre‑existing condition — and create a personalised program to keep you safe. This reduces the risk of injury and helps you keep doing the activities you enjoy.

Early Intervention Therapy

Early intervention therapy supports children to develop movement skills during important stages of their growth. physiotherapists work with infants, toddlers, and young children who may be delayed in gross motor skills, such as crawling, walking, coordination, or general physical development. Therapy is play‑based, fun, and designed to help children build strength, balance, and confidence as they grow.

Exercise Programs

Exercise programs are personalised physiotherapy plans designed to build strength, improve movement, support fitness, and help you reach your goals. Every program is tailored to your abilities — whether you’re new to exercise, recovering from injury, managing a long‑term condition, or wanting to improve overall health. We teach you each movement and support you as you build progress over time.

Neurological Rehabilitation and Support

Neurological physiotherapy helps people living with conditions that affect the brain, spine, or nerves — such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, or brain injury. Therapy focuses on improving movement, coordination, strength, balance, and independence. We work with you to rebuild pathways between the brain and body, helping you regain skills and confidence in everyday activities.

Our physio's also provide the following service options:

transfers and functional movement, posture and positioning, motor planning and motor control, fine motor development, flexibility and muscle length, sensory–motor integration, functional endurance, fatigue management, and optimisation of mobility aids and assistive technology.

Physiotherapy FAQs

What does a physiotherapist do for people with disabilities?

Physiotherapists support people with disabilities to improve mobility, strength, balance, endurance, coordination, and everyday functional independence. At Superyou Therapy, our physiotherapists provide disability-focused physiotherapy across home, school, clinic, and community settings to help clients work toward meaningful goals and greater participation.

How can I access physiotherapy through the NDIS or Medicare?

You can access physiotherapy through NDIS plans (self, plan, or agency managed), Medicare Chronic Disease Management plans with a GP referral, or private payment. Physiotherapy is funded under NDIS Capacity Building supports such as Improved Daily Living. Call us on 08 6263 8623 for help understanding your options.

Do Superyou physiotherapists provide hydrotherapy and exercise programs?

Yes. We offer personalised exercise programs and hydrotherapy—low‑impact, joint‑friendly movement in water—to support mobility, comfort, pain reduction, and strength. Therapy can be delivered in pools, homes, clinics, or community settings.

What conditions can physiotherapy help with at Superyou Therapy?

We support a wide range of neurological, physical, and developmental conditions including: Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neuron Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Spinal Cord Injury, Spina Bifida, Functional Neurological Disorder, Peripheral Neuropathy, Acquired or Traumatic Brain Injury, Amputation, and other complex disabilities.

What is a neuroaffirming approach in physiotherapy and why is it important?

Our neuroaffirming approach recognises and respects neurodiversity. Rather than aiming to “fix” or change someone’s differences, therapy prioritises strengths, sensory needs, comfort, and communication preferences. This ensures physiotherapy is empowering, inclusive, and person‑centred.

What are the benefits of physiotherapy for people with disabilities?

Physiotherapy can improve movement, independence, gait, balance, posture, strength, endurance, pain management, and participation in daily life. It also helps prevent secondary complications and supports long‑term health and function.

Is physiotherapy covered under NDIS Capacity Building funding?

Yes. Physiotherapy is commonly funded through Capacity Building supports such as Improved Daily Living or Improved Health & Wellbeing. We can provide therapy, progress notes, reviews, and functional reports to support your goals and future NDIS planning.

Do Superyou physiotherapists work with children and adults?

Yes. Our physiotherapists support children, teens, and adults with disability. Therapy may focus on motor development, mobility, daily living skills, strength, balance, equipment use, or independence—depending on each person’s needs and goals.

Can physiotherapy help with equipment or mobility aids?

Yes. Physiotherapists can assess and recommend mobility aids and assistive technology such as walkers, orthotics, wheelchairs, standing frames, and gait trainers. We also provide NDIS reports and training for safe use.

Do you offer home visits, school visits, or community physiotherapy?

Yes. We offer mobile physiotherapy across homes, schools, clinics, and the community. This reduces barriers to accessing therapy and allows sessions to occur in real‑life environments where skills are most meaningful.
